Heat stuck at 63: baseboard fins cleaned, three air bleeders replaced
Last updated Reviewed by Waseem Shahzad, Lead Technician
Huntington, NYHeating RepairTechnician: WaseemJanuary 2026
The heat was on but the house only reached 63. Dust-packed baseboard fins and three leaking air bleeders were the cause.

What the homeowner reported
The homeowner reported that the heat was on, but the house only reached about 63 degrees.
What we found
The fins inside the baseboard heaters were full of years of dust and debris, which was blocking airflow, and three air bleeders were rusty and leaking. The record notes the heating system is very old.
What we did
Waseem vacuumed deep inside the baseboards, removed the debris by hand, applied coil cleaner, rinsed, straightened the fins and reassembled them. He removed the three leaking air bleeders and installed new ones, then bled the air from the system and serviced it.
The result
After the cleaning and the new air bleeders, the heat was working very well. The homeowner also took out a service contract.

About baseboard heat
Hot-water baseboard heat warms a room by convection: air flows up through thin metal fins around the pipe. When those fins clog with dust and pet hair, far less heat reaches the room, even though the boiler and water are hot. Cleaning the fins and keeping air out of the pipes are two of the simplest ways to bring a cold room back up to temperature.
