A no-cooling call: a bad capacitor and a very dirty condenser. We replaced the capacitor and chemically cleaned the evaporator and condenser coils.

What the homeowner reported
The homeowner reported that the unit was not cooling.
What we found
The capacitor was bad and the outdoor condenser coil was very dirty. The indoor evaporator coil also needed a chemical cleaning.
What we did
Waseem replaced the capacitor, chemically cleaned the evaporator coil, and chemically cleaned the outdoor condenser coil with the jacket removed. The visit also counted as the first cooling maintenance visit under a new service agreement.
The result
After the repair and cleaning, the system was working properly. The homeowner signed up for a maintenance agreement, with the next visit for heating.

About coil cleaning
The indoor coil absorbs heat from the house and the outdoor coil gets rid of it. When either is coated in dirt, heat transfer drops, the system runs longer, and parts like capacitors and compressors work harder and fail sooner. A chemical cleaning lifts what water alone does not, and on a very dirty condenser, taking the jacket off lets the coil be cleaned properly from the inside.
