About expansion tanks, relief valves and air bleeders
These three small parts protect a hot-water system. The expansion tank absorbs the extra volume of water as it heats; when it fails, pressure spikes. The relief valve is the last line of defense, opening if pressure or temperature goes too high, and it should never be capped. The air bleeder lets trapped air escape so water can circulate; a corroded one can leak or stick. Checking all three during yearly maintenance is far cheaper than dealing with a leak or a dripping relief valve in the middle of winter.
