What Boiler Repairs Has K2 Made in Melville?
Of the 5 Melville boiler jobs in our records, three were no-heat calls, and four of the five came during the heating season. Oil boiler repair shows up on four of them. One job replaced an expansion tank, and a summer visit was preventive maintenance on the cooling side of a boiler-heated home.
Oil boilers have more moving parts than gas: a burner motor, fuel pump, nozzle, filter, electrodes and a primary control. When any of these falters, the burner locks out and the house cools down. Most are replaceable parts, which keeps the conversation on fixing the boiler instead of replacing it.
Should You Press the Oil Burner Reset Button?
Once, at most. The red reset button on the primary control restarts the burner after a lockout. If the burner fires and keeps running, something tripped it temporarily. If it locks out again, stop. Each reset can pump more oil into the combustion chamber, which risks a puff-back or a hard start.
Before reaching for the reset, check that the tank has oil, the emergency switch is on and the thermostat is calling for heat. Our oil burner reset button guide covers the details.
What Does an Expansion Tank Do on a Melville Boiler?
Water expands as it heats. The expansion tank gives that extra volume somewhere to go, so system pressure stays in a safe range. When the tank loses its internal air charge, or an older steel tank fills with water, pressure spikes every time the boiler fires and the relief valve may discharge.
Signs include a gauge that climbs well above normal when hot, water dripping from the relief valve pipe and a tank that sounds full of water when tapped. Our boiler pressure guide explains normal readings.
Why Is Only Part of My Melville Baseboard Heating?
Trapped air is the most common cause. In Melville split-levels and high-ranches, baseboard runs across several levels, and air gathers at the high points, blocking hot water. Other causes include a stuck zone valve, a failed circulator or a thermostat that is not calling for heat.
If some loops are warm and others cold, note which rooms and which thermostats. That tells us whether to start at the zone valves or the circulator. Our baseboard heat not working guide lists safe checks. Leave bleed valves on a hot, pressurized system alone unless you know the procedure.
When Does Boiler Replacement Make Sense in Melville?
When the boiler itself leaks, when repair parts are hard to find, or when an old oil boiler needs repair after repair, replacement is worth weighing. Some Melville owners also look at moving from oil to gas or adding a heat pump. We explain what we found and the options so you can decide.
Replacement may need a permit from the Town of Huntington Department of Engineering Services, 100 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743. K2 does not file town permits; please confirm requirements with that office before work is scheduled. We help with manufacturer warranty registration on new equipment; see warranty registration help.

Boiler Repair in Melville: Questions
How often should a Melville oil boiler be serviced?
Once a year, ideally before the heating season. Oil burners need a new nozzle and filter, electrode adjustment and a combustion check to run clean. Skipping service lets soot build up inside the boiler, which lowers efficiency and leads to lockouts on the first cold weekend. See our maintenance plans.
My Melville home has a boiler and central air. Who services both?
We do. Many Melville ranches and capes have a basement boiler for heat and an attic system for cooling, which is why one of our Melville boiler-home visits was an AC maintenance call. Keeping both on one schedule means a spring cooling check and a fall heating tune-up.
What should I do if my boiler is making banging noises?
Banging or kettling often points to air, low water flow or scale inside the boiler. Check the pressure gauge and listen for where the noise starts. Persistent noise needs a technician, since it can signal a circulator or heat exchanger problem. Call (631) 414-7141 and describe what you hear.
Is K2 available for Melville boiler emergencies?
Yes. Someone answers our line at any hour, and you hear an expected arrival window during that call. Melville is about 5 miles from the shop.
