What heating installs has K2 done in Dix Hills?
Our three Dix Hills heating jobs include two furnaces and one boiler, each replaced together with cooling equipment. The furnaces sat in a closet in one home and an attic in another, while the June 2026 project replaced a boiler alongside a 5-ton air handler and a rebuilt duct system.
- January 2022: the old condenser, coil, furnace and thermostat came out; a 100,000 BTU, 80% Rheem furnace went into a closet with a 4-ton Rheem cooling coil above it and a 4-ton Rheem condenser outside.
- June 2026: boiler replaced, and the attic air handler, collars and old supply and return ducts were torn out and rebuilt to improve airflow.
- October 2026: the second-floor furnace and coil in the attic were replaced with a new furnace and a matched cooling coil for a 4-ton system, plus a new outdoor condenser.
Why pair a furnace replacement with new cooling in Dix Hills?
A furnace's blower moves the air for the central AC, and the cooling coil sits right on top of the furnace cabinet. In both Dix Hills furnace jobs we replaced the coil and condenser along with the furnace, so the indoor and outdoor parts were matched and the coil fit the new cabinet.
Setting a new furnace under a fifteen-year-old coil often means custom transitions, an airflow mismatch and a second disruption a few years later when the AC gives out. Doing both at once means one round of duct retrofit, one round of wiring and one start-up. In the January 2022 home, the existing line set was reconnected and pressurized with nitrogen instead of being replaced, since the copper was usable; that call is made house by house.
How is an attic furnace installed in a large Dix Hills colonial?
An attic furnace carries its cooling coil directly above the cabinet. In the October 2026 Dix Hills job, the new second-floor furnace went into the attic with a matched coil on top, and the primary and secondary drain lines and drain pan were reconnected beneath the equipment before start-up.
Big Dix Hills colonials often split heating by floor: a basement or closet unit for downstairs and an attic furnace or air handler for the bedrooms. An attic gas furnace needs proper venting, enough combustion air and a solid service platform, and condensate from the coil must have a safe path out of the house. We disconnect the supply and return ducts, tie them back into the new cabinet, and confirm the upstairs thermostat calls the right system once everything is running.
What changes when a Dix Hills home heats with a boiler?
A boiler heats water, not air, so replacing one involves piping, circulators and venting rather than ductwork. In the June 2026 Dix Hills project, the boiler change-out was quoted together with the cooling, because the attic duct system was being torn out and rebuilt during the same job.
Many Dix Hills houses built from the 1980s on use hydro-air, where boiler water feeds a coil inside each air handler. In that setup the boiler, the coils and the air handlers have to work as one system, and sizing a new boiler means counting every coil and baseboard zone plus any indirect water heater it feeds. Older ranches may run baseboard alone, often on oil. Either way, a boiler is sized from the home's heat loss, not from the label on the old one. You can see that combined job in our Dix Hills boiler, central air and ductwork replacement.
Do I need a permit to replace heating in Dix Hills?
Heating equipment changes in Dix Hills fall under the Town of Huntington, since the hamlet is unincorporated. The office is the Department of Engineering Services at 100 Main Street, Huntington. K2 does not file permits, so please confirm with that office what your furnace or boiler replacement needs before work is scheduled.
Fuel affects planning too. National Grid gas runs along many Dix Hills streets, but some homes still burn oil, and switching fuels changes the venting, the tank situation and the gas service to the house. Our West Babylon oil-to-gas furnace and central air install shows what that kind of conversion involves from start to finish.
How is a Dix Hills heating installation priced?
Each Dix Hills heating install is quoted in writing after a visit, because the figure moves with equipment type, fuel, location in the house, ductwork or piping changes and whether cooling is replaced at the same time. Our furnace and boiler replacement cost guide explains those variables in more depth.
Financing is offered through Rheem KwikComfort, with credit provided by Synchrony Bank, subject to credit approval. Once the system is running, we help you register it with the manufacturer; see our warranty page. Heating Installation in Dix Hills: Questions
Should I replace my Dix Hills furnace in summer or winter?
Either works, and our Dix Hills heating jobs landed in January, June and October. A planned replacement in late spring or early fall avoids going without heat or cooling on a hard day and leaves time to settle the permit question. A midwinter install usually follows a breakdown.
What furnace efficiency makes sense in Dix Hills?
The January 2022 job used an 80% furnace in a closet, which vents through an existing chimney or metal flue. Higher-efficiency condensing furnaces need PVC venting and a condensate drain, which isn't always easy to route from a closet or attic. We look at the venting path before recommending one over the other.
Can K2 replace only the boiler in a hydro-air Dix Hills home?
Yes, if the air handlers and coils are in good condition. The boiler connects to those coils through piping and circulators, so we check that the new boiler's output covers every zone. When the air handlers are also aging, quoting them together, as in the June 2026 project, can spare you a second disruption.
What happens to my old Dix Hills heating and cooling equipment?
We take it out. On our change-outs the old furnace, coil, boiler or air handler is removed, and the outdoor condenser is pumped down before it's disconnected so its refrigerant isn't released. The June 2026 record notes the old materials were disposed of following local regulations.
