No cooling: leaking Schrader core replaced and both coils cleaned
Last updated Reviewed by Waseem Shahzad, Lead Technician
Deer Park, NYAC RepairTechnicians: Waseem and JustinAugust 2026
A no-cooling call. The suction service valve had a leaking Schrader core, and both coils were dirty. We replaced the core and cleaned both coils.

What the homeowner reported
The homeowner asked for service on the central air, which was not cooling.
What we found
The outdoor condenser coil and the indoor evaporator coil were both dirty, and the Schrader core in the suction line service valve was leaking refrigerant. Pressures were otherwise good.
What we did
Waseem and Justin replaced the leaking Schrader core, chemically cleaned the evaporator coil, chemically cleaned the condenser coil with the jacket removed, replaced the filter and added 1 lb of refrigerant.
The result
Everything else was working properly after the repair. The record notes the system is old, and the homeowner asked for a price on replacing it.

About Schrader cores
The service ports on an air conditioner use Schrader cores, small spring valves like the one in a tire stem. They let a technician connect gauges, and they are a common place for a slow refrigerant leak. Replacing a leaking core is a small repair, but it stops a leak that would otherwise keep bringing the system back low on refrigerant.
